I really don't understand how people can write so many pages for the HSC. I was just reading through this sub-forum and apparently people were writing over 6 pages for a single extended response...

How do you write so fast?????????? My hand just dies when i try to do that.

I've still got a year to work on it - HSC 2010 - but I want to learn how to write fast (or what pens are good, etc).

Thanks.
P.S. I know that quality if more important that quantity.

The lines are 1.5 cm spaced. Don't worry - you don't need to change anything.

the lines are large and generally people write larger and more messy during the exam, increasing speed

I think there are a lot of different factors.

- Practice: the more you do timed responses under exam conditions the better you get at thinking quickly on your feet and by writing under the constraints of time you increase writing speed.
- Rote-learning: there are many people who have a basic essay already prepared/memorised and then replicate it in the exam (with some minor changes to fit the question).
- Writing size: some people have extraordinarily large handwriting. Also, writing larger allows you to write faster whilst maintaining legibility. See above posts.
- Exam booklet's line spacing: see above posts.

Practise, practise, practise.
The more you write to time, the better you will be at it. One example, when I first started year twelve I would write about 4 pages in a 40 minute response, but by the time I sat my HSC exams I found I was writing about 8 pages or more for each response.

have u ever looked at those BoS student response packages?

some kids have super big writing with massive spaces between words

writing style has a lot of factors associated with it. if everyones responses where typed up, im sure you would see that the variance is not as big as you would think

You'll hear alot of people say "quality not quantity" but in all honesty, it's both.
If I was marking a paper and I saw an exam booklet with only 2 pages done I would probably form my impression right then and there.
:/
Just practise heaps and make sure you don't just write crap - stay relevant.

I wrote 16 pages in my 40 minute 2U essay and 21 pages for my 50 minute 3U essay. I write 3-4 words per line and on every 2nd line otherwise it doesn't fit. So I'm not writing more words than you. Don't worry. I average 55-60 words a page.
