Hello BOSers, I've just been calculating what my possible mark is compared with what the highest mark may be. My assessment was weighed at 15% and I am estimating that I am getting around 17-18 out of 25. So i have found that 17/25 is somewhat 10.2% while the highest which may possibly be 21/25 is around 12.6%. Will it be difficult to catch up since I'm down by 2%? My next assignments are 15%, 25%, 15%, 30%.

It wont be difficult to catch up so long as you do well in the future assessments. I think I read on this forum that Khfreakau said he only got 66% for our first Maths Extension 2 exam but he ended up coming top 5 by the end of the year.

Just to reiterate. Internal marks don't mean anything. It's the ranks.

Okay but what if I'm 3rd in standard in a rank 211 school (based on this year's results). My cohort for standard is HORRIBLE so would it actually drag down a lot? I'm not sure about the technical stuff that happens with ranks and etc

Won't drag you down if you and the other two people are outliers.

Top 3 for standard at a school ranked in the low 200s isn't so bad. You'll be able to get a band 5 atleast.

If your school rank is maintained by your cohort (say your cohort is equal calibre of 2011 or roundabouts), you'd prob still get high-ish band 5 if you stayed in top 3.

Unfortunately it is not, hence why it is so important to get 1st in standard english.
