practice and practice again and again. my writing was terrible but still legiable. maybe try putting a battery on top of your pen for practice so during trials/hsc its easier once you take it off? idk I didnt do this but it seems to help some.

Doing this can get your hand injured.

Apparently the battery around the pen doesn't work and is less effective than putting pen to paper and just writing everything and focusing on getting quicker and quicker. You could try changing your writing style? Cursive is typically quicker for me and I focussed on making my writing a bit smaller as I found that under exam conditions I would write super big. You still have a lot of time so maybe try writing important notes and then moving to past papers and memorising essays by hand writing them, especially for subjects like economics, pdhpe, the history subjects etc

Find someone in his/her 60s or older for advice on how to write. Speedy handwriting comes with doing running writing - but most people do not know how to join their letters. Also I find that once you are set in the way you write, it is very difficult, if not impossible, to unlearn your way of writing. Which leads me to think that the best way to teach someone how to write "properly", we must start him/her young -, perhaps between 5 and 8. Once you are set in your way, it is too late. You can do your darndest, and you will still be unable to unlearn your acquired style.

I also notice that at least 3 out of 5 people below 40 do not know how to hold their pen!

PS: by the way, your 660 words/45 mins is already fast.

dont think this can necessarily injure ur hand unless ur a real idiot to believe so
It's like lifting weights. If you lift beyond your limits you can get injured. Same can happen with batteries, if someone 1. attaches too big a battery, 2. has weak bones and muscles in their hand. The extra strain over a prolonged period may do harm.

batteries are quite small, again depending on the type. your generic thin ones wont hurt you. Unless you have an underlying joint issue, im sure you are smart enough not to do that.

Just one thing - the battery doesn't work for everyone. For some people, their hand gets used to a different position once the battery comes off so they end up writing quite uncomfortably. I know someone who didn't even take their batteries off in the HSC because they couldn't revert back to a plain pen.

Maybe just focus less on how neat your writing is, because they can usually read messy writing. I think I wrote around 800ish words in 40-45 mins for english without stopping so it's different for everyone :)
