Hi,
Is it true that for Ngo and Sons classes for Maths, only high selective high schools can get into the accelerated classes?

i'm in accel (ever since the senior rollover in y9) and there are only selective schools (but almost everyone but like two or three are from the same school) in my class, but you can ask to be moved up to accel (exam if specialist). i think you have to be on top of homework and performing well in the exams to be moved up though

if i recall correctly though, students from the top selective schools (the ones in the top 10) are given priority to be in accel. schools in girra and penrith are automatically in the advanced stream

theres girra in the specialist class, not sure about Penrith tho. but there’s a Girra and penrith(combined) focus class over at the parramatta campus and I think alot of them go in that class over the accelerated/ specialist classes.

im not exactly sure about the percentage cutoffs for each level, but ik smo that did the entry into y7 test for ngo and she got high 80’s( I think around 87/88) and got into the advanced class. However, a hurlstone focus class opened it so after a while she joined that. After around 1.5 years she got asked to join the accelerated class so don’t sweat it if u cant make it into the accelerated/specialist class straight away. Doing well in the exams and doing the hw consistently will allow u to move up levels. Anyways that should give u an idea of what is expected, I think for advanced the minimum needed in the entrance exam is probably 80-85 and for accelerated maybe 95? You can ring them up and ask them what the cutoff marks are. If your concerned regarding the topics in the exams maybe you could ask them that too, I’m not sure whether they’ll tell u tho.

spec class requires an exam so even a fundo kid who does good in the exam can get into specialist, there is a penrith/girra class but it's an advanced level rather than the accel/spec classes because the focus class is more tailored towards them and their scope and sequence

i think it depends on what school you go to and the focus class you're in. in y8 i was in a school specific class focus class that became the accel class during the y9 senior rollover

for the specialist class i’m pre sure there’s not an exam needed anymore, well at least when i was admitted into the class

Isn't it for students who actually accelerate? Like for example, I'm accelerating right now, does that not qualify me into accel?

no the accelerated class is for those mainly in the top selective schools, you don’t have to do accelerated maths at school to qualify for the class. i’m not sure if they’ll automatically admit accelerated students into the class since you have to do an entrance exam and if u do poorly on it i don’t think they’ll let u into accel regardless of the fact u do it at school

wait hold on does that just mean accelerated is not even nessesarily accelerated? 💀 Bruh Troung rlly smoking that green gold man ong
At ngo and sons there are five different levels which determines the difficulty and pace (hardest and fastest to easiest and slowest):
1.specialist
2.accelerated
3.advanced
4.intermediate
5.fundamental
the accelerated class accelerates kids regardless of whether they do accelerated maths at school. it aims to get them ahead and makes them practice rigorous qs that are much harder than school exams. im pre sure the accelerated class is like a few terms- a year ahead of school.
