last friday, our school went to a 4 unit maths seminar run by mark Arnold, THE writer of our beloved :)S) 4 unit textbook. it got pretty boring (sorry mr ARNOLD) so we wrote down some mathematical terms instead. don't take it too seriously, have a read and get on with maths homework, ok?

DEDUCE: Hence (apparently a bigger word for it)

HENCE: use what you just did before you silly turkey

TANGENT: 1) (to go off on) n. To talk about random mathematics
2) a Perverted line touching a curve at a right angle
also known as a WAFFLE

T: a magical variable wihch solves every mathematical problem and world hunger.

DUMMY VARIABLE: substitute in, make a huge, rarely understood mathematical leap of faith, dummy!

INTEGRATION: involves an equation with dy/dx, commonly solved by cancelling the @ (theta) and thinking no further.

CONIC: Sharp pointy things, good for stabbing certain people in the head.

TRICK QUESTION: what the teachers and exam setters are trying to do to make us feel unintelligent and reduce what little self esteem we have. usually leads to an individual spiralling down in depression , and sex, drugs, rock and roll, or quitting shcool to beocme a professional busker.

CHANGE OF VARIABLE: "mathematical mahem - we do some absolutely disgusting things because they work!" --Mark Arnold

LOGS: world's solution to mathematical problems. "Once i've got a log, i don't have to do anything" --Mark Arnold

I see ...

Don't you think "maths' humour" is a rare comidity and should be preserved in the "extracirricular" area.

i agree completely, wat happened to mathematical humour? :uhhuh:
back in my days...

though i have to say, i thought "moved and stuck" was a joke so i sat there for ages trying to figure out if there was an underlayer of mathematical meaning to those three damned words... :(

"I'm so cut!" said the parabola to the chord.

And well, this has already been pointed out, sort of, but:

"Stop touching me!" said the curve to the tangent.

Huge Mr Derivative storms into the meeting of mathematical symbols, and everyone runs off screaming, except for one.
"What the...?" says Mr Derivative, "Aren't you afraid of me? Why arent you?"
And the symbol says, "Because I'm e to the x, you cant hurt me!"
And Mr Derivative says, I believe you are unfamiliar with my alter ego d/dy!

when in doubt, laugh :D
leng's ones were pretty good though :p
mathematical terms themselves are pretty funny. our class cracked ourselves with "latus rectum" (i know, i know, pretty low hey?:))
