I would agree with you. Most of the scholarships nowadays are for those who are really in need.

It depends on the kind of the scholarship being offered. There's a scholarship for those who have excellent grades, there's also a scholarship for financially unprivileged, etc.

Yes it is good to join into academic/co-curricular clubs in the university to gain new experience, learning, friends, and sometimes merit. :)

Focus on your study but don't forget to balance it with making new friends in order to have a meaningful stay in the University.
