Yup....1.5 hours on bus from Castle Hill to City, 20 mins bus to UNSW. Add on walking/waiting time = 2-2.30hrs. Awful.

True, but an ATAR is a reasonable indication of the intelligence/organisational ability/motivation of a student at a particular life-stage. No reason I can't maintain that, just as I know many who've completely flunked their HSC only to excel at uni. I took at mixture of Science and Arts...

Hmmmm.....it comes to this, is it worth all that travel for Advanced Science at UNSW, or just do ordinary BSc/BA at MacQuarie and possibly pick up the D/HD's instead of struggling in Advanced! Yet it seems a waste to be 20 plus marks over the cut off at Macquarie. I hate making decisions like this!

You're doing similar to what I'd be doing...Advanced Science/B Arts. How full is your timetable. What time do you start and finish? How many days per week are you at Uni? Are any lectures available on line? How much lab work is there?

Would LOVE to go to UNSW for Advanced Science but can't get past the travel time. What's it like doing it every day?

Need to stay in Sydney. UNSW does it...long way to travel though, 4 hour per day! Would do it if the benefits made up for all the travel.

I think ozko might be referring to the fact that some uni's give D's and HD's to top %, whereas others award on basis of actual content quality.... It's not about the ease of assessment, it's about the level of competition. You can't attend international uni's that aren't partners - not unless...

Your work at uni is awarded HD, D, Credit or pass. HD's and Distinctions are awarded to top percentage of std's. Employers look at, amongst other things, the grades you get as well as those grades enabling you to transfer to other courses or Advanced subjects and eventually enrol in Honours...

Well, yes...and no. But would it be better accepting a lower entrance uni to have more chance of topping peers and getting better grades?

It's likely I'll get an ATAR getting me into UNSW, USYD or MQ......BUT.... (1) I'd like to major in climate science but USYD doesn't do that subject (2) You can only do Climate in Advanced Sci at UNSW (I might 'just' make Advanced entry though and have heard you can transfer to Advanced after...
