Hi! I'm Holden...

I am a PhD candidate at the University of Wollongong, an academic tutor and freelance literary and media critic from New South Wales, Australia. I completed my Bachelor of Arts Honours in English Literature in 2023 and have worked as an academic tutor since March 2021. Currently, my research interests are contemporary literature, American literature, post-postmodernism and shifting representations of Los Angeles in contemporary fiction.

I began my Bachelor of Arts in 2020, where I majored in English Literature and Writing. I completed elective subjects in the areas of journalism, media studies, sociology, linguistics and philosophy. Within my primary discipline, I gained training in close reading, critical theory, and the comprehension, interpretation and analysis of a range of substantial English-language texts written across various epochs, genres, modes, and countries of origin. I completed my degree with distinction in 2022, allowing me to complete an additional Honours year in 2023. In April of 2024, I graduated as a Deans-List scholar and began my PhD at the University of Wollongong the same year.

Over the last four years, I have worked with over 130 students from Years 7 to 12 in both a classroom and one-on-one setting. I work to foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where students feel respected, understood, and excited about refining their literacy and writing skills. I have the most experience teaching Preliminary HSC and HSC English (Standard and Advanced) to Year 11 and 12 students, but I enjoy working with students of all skill levels at every stage in their journey.
