i would think so given that public schools are secular and if she/he goes to a religious school then it would already be assumed they are of that faith

Not really. There is a great demand for hospital scientists at most of the major hospitals. Especially if you go on and specialise in shit like cytology, cytogenetics, etc. Heavy demand.

Do some bridging courses, would be my suggestion. My other suggestion would be to look carefully at this. Career prospects in Australia for forensic scientists aren't great, because we don't have a burgeoning market for it. They're competitive and limited.
