Skipping lectures is fine, sometimes preferable even such as when the lecturer has an accent so you can listen to their voice directly and pause/slow down/speed up if necessary. Going in person is better most of the time, but yeah with work and shit, you can't be expected to go to all of them...

You aren't being marked on the sophistication of your language, and honestly, not even English is too fussed about it. The markers are human; they want something which is easy to read with nice flow. Bogging your writing down with unnecessarily big words will frustrate them.
