Mariana Rodriguez-Valenzuela was born in Mexico but lived in Australia for almost 20 years. Mariana received her initial BA degree at the University of Sydney. After that she continued her studies with a BA Honours at UNSW where her research was a critical study of representations of women in Mexican Cinema of the 1940s. Mariana is currently a Phd researcher at UTS where her focus research is art representations of drug smuggling culture. She also holds a MA in International Studies with a research based on Mexican-American popular culture and its links to politics. Mariana has also worked as a subtitler and translator of full length feature documentaries. Rodriguez has a wide teaching experience having worked at USYD, UTS and UNSW tutoring and lecturing in subjects such as communications, international studies and Latin American studies for six years.
