These boards are counterintuitive, unless you have the power to ignore the general discussion topics, you don't help yourself or anyone else (unless it's a social problem, I guess)

If we are asked to discuss the worth of texts, and we have to refer to how they were valued over time, does this mean to examine how the texts were appropriated, how they portray values, how they were received or some other means that create an answer?

This is true, but the thing is you shouldn't make up an entire story, you should make up an outline of possible characters and a scenario related to the area of study, right? That way you have more freedom to adapt the ideas to the question.
I'm sure there wouldn't be any harm in getting both of them to help, as (I think) was mentioned earlier. It's like getting help from more than one maths teacher, it can get interesting when a question is really complicated and the maths teachers point you into different ways to achieve the same...
