Butterworths v mann australian law dict. ????

Butterworths. Your line about 'common Asian' gave me a chuckle - never heard that usage before. How 'common' can Asians be? I mean, there's only a billion or so of you guys.

What do you hate about law students?

First time i've been on BOS in a while, and this is STILL going? I started this in 08. Maybe my next thread will be 'Things you love about law students'. If it gets more than 10 positive replies, I will give everyone on BOS a handjob.

don't worry guys, you'll be working 9-5 pretty much as summer clerks. Summer clerkships are not really designed to give you the real taste of life in a corporate law firm. If it were realistic, no-one would want to stay. That being said, colleagues who have clerked at inv. banks say they...

    criminal law - where?

nope - all the unis will teach you the same thing. At the end of the day, a law degree can only take you as far as you want it to. And going to an establishment uni will only really matter if you want to work in a corporate setting - which you've already expressed an aversion to. Maybe look...

An equity partner owns part of the firm - profits will be shared between the partners. Technically all partners own part of the firm - they each get a vote in determining how the business is run. However, with the expansion of law firms to well over 100 partners in large firms, you have...

a bit further - A barrister is a specialised lawyer who only does advocacy - court arguing. To be a barrister, you'll need a law degree/completed the LPAB Diploma. At this stage, you'll be a solicitor. To be a barrister, you need to take an extra series of exams - the bar exam, see...

    Atticus Finch and Law

what a great question. As a person almost finishing law and starting a career, I want to get in here before the mis-informed (and often cynical) posters get a shot. The fact is, you don't need to be the best. Whatever that means. Doing well in the HSC helps, and if you can get a UAI (or...
