    Surface Hardening

Hardening is a broad topic and Flame hardening and Shot peening are just a form/type of hardening. Don't be too concerned that you cannot find it in any Eng St textbooks. Questions in the HSC do not ask specifically "What is Flame Hardening?" but rather "Name two methods of hardening and why...

2011 hsc engineering studies bending question

Your answers are correct. But remember bending moment isnt 1890, its 1.89 kNm (convert your dimensions to metres before using it). Dimensions on this drawing is very confusing. In my opinion, the 1000 dimension is drawn incorrectly.

    some questions...

    1. Yep! you got it! reducing material is done to reduce weight and raw material costs. 2. I'm not 100% sure about zinc/cobalt corrosion combination, but reading how the question is asked, the answer would be Galvanic Corrosion. Here's a simple explanation of Glavanic Corrosion...

    some questions...

Here's some hints. 1. Firstly, do you understand why I Beams are in the shape of an 'I'? When you've found the reason to its shape, you'll then understand why the amount of material at the centre of beam isn't critical (structurally). When you cut a hole out of the steel, what does it remove...

    Engineering Question/Answer Textbook/Website Source Recommendations?

What do you mean "own them"? I have no association to these books at all. These books have been around since early 2000's (when i was a student). There are no books more detailed than these, its the last and ONLY books you may ever need for this course. If you are not sure, please read up on...

HSC Engineering Preliminary and HSC Question!!

Engineering is no different to any other subject: you need to do preliminary courses to develop skills and understanding to apply to HSC topics. If you want to try and do HSC course without prelim previously, be prepared to work extra hard! Eng St is already a difficult subject to achieve a...

    Member force help!

Use Method of Section: 1. Cut the structure in half so that the 'cut' is through the members that you are looking for (i.e. top to bottom cut, through three members: top, a, and b). 2. Guestimate and put symbols on members a and b (and top if you want) if they are either in tension or...

Do you need help with Engineering Studies???

Hi Guys & Girls, I'm Wingman. i've been on this forum for a long time. And year on year the Engineering Studies Forum gets used less and less. So I would like to help whenever and wherever possible. I did my Engineering Studies exam in 2003. I've done my 4 years of Mechanical Engineering...

    balsawood bridge

Big Croc, you made your arch bridge from particle laminate board. This material is thinly layer plyboard in a cross directional grain direction. This material is actually stronger than many 'normal' timbers out there! It's manufactured to be a cheap and strong substitute for functionality. It...
