yeah basically just fully know what you're talking about, and hand write a LOT to practice. a good pen also helps, and the way you hold it might lessen the pain a bit. i like pilot pens. or artline :)

sydney is awesome! a bit of bias here obviously, but it's definitely a way different sort of environment than melbourne. maybe you should just come and try it out for a week or two then decide whether it's for you? (:
