    Smoking a turn off?

Horrible turn off. Smokers stink, their clothes stink, their cars stink, and you end up smelling the same. I'd never touch a smoker with a 10-foot pole, be they an occasional smoker or a pack-a-day. It's all just as bad to me.

    Friends and Social Health.

Just say hello to people. University is a clean slate, so use the opportunity to make friends. Everyone else will be open to it, because they're trying to do the same.

    Law Path

QFT I didn't even begin law school intending to be a lawyer. If you can, try and get jobs in each main 'area' - like with some barristers, in a small law firm, in a community legal centre, in a big law firm - that you're vaguely interested in after a bit of study and see how you find the work...

    Best uni for studying Law?

Whenever anyone says 'top 8', it just means '8th, but we don't want to sounds bad'. Painful.

Academic tips for 1st year law students.

Read and take notes? Idk, always worked for me. Start assignments the day you get them

    CHEAPEST way to get textbooks

The library. No shit. A friend of mine doesn't buy any books, just borrows them constantly from the reserved section, does her reading, takes her notes, photocopies the important parts to keep in a folder and barely pays anything for it. Now THAT is the cheapest way.

    Uni Questions

Re: bring lunch to uni? I found a good trick to be, pack a lunchbox with separated sandwich fillings in the morning, then stop at the supermarket or bakery on the way to uni and grab a fresh bread roll/extras. Tear open the roll and shove it all in there at lunchtime and there's your gourmet...

    legal secretary - good experience?

More or less anything in the law should look great on your resume, I think. Even if all you're doing is typing (and you'll probably do more than that), you're still familiarising yourself with legal jargon and concepts in context, improving your letter-writing/communication skills, working in a...

    does anyone not drink

I drink a little, when I'm out with others. I just don't have the inclination, nor the money, to get really plastered on anything but a very, very occasional basis.

    time management @ uni

Be organised and start everything as soon as possible... never, ever leave assignments or before you know it, they're due in 3 days' time. And try to do as much of the reading as possible. And expect that you'll end up working a lot harder at the end of the semester than the start, no matter how...

    What's the appeal of Law?

Somehow I don't think I picked creative arts because I thought I would be well-respected for it, or because I could fall into a high-paying job afterwards. That's a pretty petty way of regarding people. The earning capacity a degree will give you will inevitably be a part of a person's choice...

    What's the appeal of Law?

I started because I thought it would be a good career choice, I stay because I find it very interesting. Also, doing legal volunteering has made me interested in the helping-people side, too. I think if you do it for the prestige/money, and always keep this as your motivation, it'll...

have you ever done well in a law exam even though you thought you stuffed up badly?

I did badly in contracts too (63) though I got 80 in obligations and usually get around ~75 or a bit more. I asked my lecturer what happened but even after his explanation, I still don't know how I ended up messing up so badly :S

addicted to Frankie. any one else?

I feel really awesome, because my name is Frankie. I've not got a lot to add besides that.

    Yes. "Sick of".

    Melbourne Uni - Academic machine?

I haven't found that. If you go looking for help, friends and support, you'll find it.

have you ever done well in a law exam even though you thought you stuffed up badly?

I generally get opposing marks. I thought I had done all right in Dispute Resolution and I bombed; I walked out of the Obligations exam convinced I had failed horribly and ended up with a top mark. You never know.
