    Semester 1 USYD Chatter Thread

I think the Bricks are for first week of uni. I don't think stealing the Women's College boom gate is necessarily specific to Drews (although they probably count for a high percentage of it). The boom gate goes missing far too frequently for only one college to be responsible (almost every...

    Semester 1 USYD Chatter Thread

It is St Andrews college first year thing. Happens every year. They have to introduce the brick first, and they can't lose it. If they lose it, it is taken from them, or they don't have it on them, they have to carry around 2 bricks.

    Friends and other shiz

agreed. I made lots of friends from joining a couple of societies. Also, if you have a class before lunch, strike up a conversation with a person (or tag along with a group of people) and just ask what they are doing for lunch - then ask to join them. That way you aren't left lonely at lunch...

    Semester 1 USYD Chatter Thread

Currently on a crowded bus to the city. I'm really going to hate the law faculty for keeping old law school open. The half hour I have to get from main campus to old law school is really cutting it fine - especially at 4pm. Between the panicked half running to get there and being in a lecture...

Where can I get a good coffee on campus?

oh wow. I never knew that existed! Cool. re coffee - a lot of people go to Taste in the law building, but since I don't drink coffee I'm not sure if that's because its any good, or because its convenient (and law kids love Taste). Probably one of the more expensive places on campus though...

I'm here too! :p (although clearly not as early as you were!)

    REFERENCING HELP anyone?

The other thing to note with referencing is that different faculties will have different ways they want referencing done. So always check your unit of study guide etc for the specifics of what they want (if they have it in there), or the faculty website etc. They can be very minor differences...

    Uni starts tomorrow!

I think I did that subject back in the day. It was pretty fun (I think). I tend to get a very rosy picture of subjects after I've done them.

    Semester 1 USYD Chatter Thread

First lecture 9am-11: Equity and Financial Risk Allocation. At least i'll be able to concentrate for it. I can't say the same for the other 6 hours of class today. I'm on campus until 9pm. :( edit: They've finally got rid of that vpn/cisco stuff to access the internet! Its so much easier now...

    Semester 1 USYD Chatter Thread

USYD really didn't think through the day they decided to put those rough cobblestones along eastern av/fisher/quad. Although it does provide a lot of amusement watching first years in heels. I did always feel a bit sorry at the waste of money spent though - especially considering half the cobble...

    Recording lectures

If the lecture is not already recorded (not all are). You can ask the lecturer permission to record it. They may let you, they may not. I have seen lecturers give permission to individual students. Some people do record the lecturer without asking permission - some get away with it, some don't...

    Subject Selections 2012

There is a security bus that runs around the uni and down to redfern station during semester in the evenings. Information is here http://sydney.edu.au/facilities/security/bus.shtml So you can catch that if necessary. Sorry I can't help with your other questions.

    O-Week Meat

I haven't done a very good inspection for hot chocolates I must say - probably can't give a preference. I've only been to the pool cafe a couple of times though, i'm now intrigued about their hot chocolates! Unfortunately I also work two days (tuesday/thursday) in the city - so there aren't...

    O-Week Meat

haha thanks. I actually don't drink coffee (somehow managed through uni on tea and hot chocolates) but if I'm on campus and don't have class, I'll come! Luckily I do have a lunch break - 1-2pm - I would die without it. But I'm only in two days a week (16 contact hours). 0 breaks is so not good!

    O-Week Meat

I don't have much free time when i'm on campus this semester but I'll try to come to a meat.

    Semester 1 USYD Chatter Thread

Agh I tried to get ahead of the queues and purchase textbooks and readers for my subjects earlier this week...I thought I had everything, but now there's also a reader for one of my subjects. And it doesn't sound nice (when its $53 you know there's going to be a stack of reading). :( I've...

All LAW and SCIENCE student at UNI, please HELP!!!

I agree with this that many students abandon a lot of the readings by about half way through semester (we all have - you have to prioritise what you can actually do in the time, and make what you do actually count). There is a bit of an art to figuring out the most important things to read, what...

    Semester 1 USYD Chatter Thread

In the past there have been special SMH cards. I thought it was generally given out when you collected your access card, although I may have been wrong. It also usually takes a couple of weeks for home delivery to start up. Sorry I have no idea about the digital login - that is new this year...

All LAW and SCIENCE student at UNI, please HELP!!!

I was the opposite lol I always thought you couldn't do an undergraduate straight law degree anywhere. I have slowly found out there are places that do it, but most of the universities I have generally looked at don't offer a three year undergraduate law degree Eg. USYD, UNSW, Macquarie offer...

Necessary to attend tutorials in the first week?

Note that in case your tutorials are running in week 1 (unlikely, but check your timetable), that tutorials generally require 80% attendance over the course of the semester, so its fine to miss one or two, but be careful about missing more than 2 as you might fall below the 80% line and this can...
