    Bush's Creationism in schools remarks

The concepts of creationism and intelligent design are not part of science, they are issues for metaphysics. Hence it should be part of a philosophy course, not high school science. Besides which, the acceptance of evolution in the global scientific community is virtually indubitable...

    Solicitors higher income??

Yes, I could never be a defence lawyer. Occassionally I get the urge to be a prosecutor, I enjoy the litigation side of things and I think I would be particularly suited to trial process but I haven't found myself too attuned with Crim. I think commercial law will be it for me.

    different law schools

There are a number of NSW judges in particular who would (and will) die before they see equity merge with common law. Gummow would certainly baulk at any suggestion that the two are or should be fused into one system.

meeting people who have been screwed over by lawyers

They're law firms, not saints. Money will always be top priority and they will usually go to reasonable lengths to maintain it. This means the occasional dodgy act here and there, sure. However the atmosphere varies and certainly an incident that great was probably an uncommon example, because...

    different law schools

Call me crazy but I never really jumped at the idea of taking career advice from someone who chose to devote the precious moments of this world to handing out career advice to smelly high school students

meeting people who have been screwed over by lawyers

It was a big case... it might be interesting to you actually - the HC said that a health professional has a duty to warn a patient of a material risk inherent in proposed treatment. A risk is material if in the particular case: a reasonable person in the patient's position, if warned of the...

    Offer non-believers ethics, schools told

Yes there may be issues involved in presenting the topics in an interesting way to prevent it becoming a hated, bludge subject that is a waste of time. However, ethics can be taught. Presenting different ethical dilemmas and using theoretical underpinnings of moral theory to examine these...

    Offer non-believers ethics, schools told

Thinking carefully about what is right and wrong is a very valuable experience that is a lot more complex than one might think. If nothing else it gets youths considering the implications of their actions on others. It may make them at least consider important ethical decisions when in some...

meeting people who have been screwed over by lawyers

I know a family friend, a solicitor, who worked for Clayton Utz, some time ago now. He explained the working atmosphere where everyone was very nasty and competitive, and people were virtually encouraged to backstab each other in order to get ahead, etc. One such example is if say, Moonlight...

    Offer non-believers ethics, schools told

I most certainly agree, though if ethics were to be taught then I wouldn't mind "personal" ethics forming part of the subject matter. As long as these "value" classes are not solely Christian values, then I think that the study of ethics would be an advantageous addition to youth development...
