    General exam question

At the start of the Unit of Study, you would have been given an information sheet that lists the assessment policy for that unit (i.e. what each assignment was worth, what the exam was worth, etc). Any additional requirements, such as passing certain units, would have been listed on the sheet...

    Scaling and Failing.

As far as I'm aware, this should never happen- if you get a raw mark above 50, then you won't be scaled down to a fail. However, that might not always be true of higher grades- some Usyd faculties do have policies that regulate how many students can get a certain grade (for instance, I think law...

    Review of Des O'Neil's course

Been a while since I posted, so hi. So I sat the GAMSAT this year after training with Des O'Neil's course. This was my first time sitting GAMSAT, and I got an overall score of 81 (over 60 in everything as well). It's one of the more popular courses, so I thought I'd post a review of my...

    HELP!!! math 1901 lectures

Oh, do I remember this course... This goes to show just how much tougher uni maths is than school maths. They also have quite a different focus- at school, advanced maths is basically just more normal maths with slightly harder algebra. You can still beat it by just doing lots of questions and...

    Changing units of study

You can sometimes get special permission to do it after the official dates have elapsed, although usually this requires some kind of reason. Going from advanced down to normal is normally fine.

    Astronomy and Astrophysics.

Right now, all astronomy is done through the School of Physics. Here is everything they cover: 1st year- you can do the PHYS1500 Astronomy course. It is interesting, easy, and fun, but not very rigorous (has no maths at all, in fact). Its main role seems to be to attract interested students and...

How do you become a tutor?

Just to clarify for the OP- you will almost never be considered for a tutor position unless you already qualify for a degree (i.e. you are in honors or postgraduate study). You do not, however, need a D or HD average; simply getting into honors is enough.

    Help me appeal against exclusion

The SRC provides assistance with handling student appeals. You can find out about them here: http://www.src.usyd.edu.au/ Also, I know you said you did not want to, but it would be beneficial if you could give us some information as to the reasons for your exclusion. We won't judge, but we...

    What's after Medicine

You're correct in saying that a Usyd MBBS is 4 years. But that itself isn't enough to actually become a practicing doctor. First, you do your internship, which is usually 1 year. This is basically the professional training period, after which you become registered as a medical practitioner. So...

    STAT test for pharmacy

STAT is basically a glorified IQ test. There's no real need to prepare for it, nor do past papers offer you much advantage. The practice questions available on the ACER website give you a pretty good indicator as to what you'll be up against on the day. I think there are some courses out...

The Official University of Sydney Toilet Thread

Law Library: Pros- Clean, generally no queues, always got soap Cons- No air ventilation system with predictable results. Physics: Pros- Clean, not many people Cons- Doors are easy to see over, one of the sinks doesn't work. Bosch: Pros- Huge, so queues and at least one of them should be...

Does graduating with D/HD average matter?

It's going to be important if you want to do honors or postgrad

    Easy first year science units

PHYS1500 is one of the easiest units in the uni, I reckon. It has no labs, just easy-to-use computer simulations.

    P's test at Castle Hill

I got my Reds and Greens at Castle Hill. My instructor told me that "Vince" is CH's easiest testing officer, but you can't actually choose the testing officer you get, so it's luck of the draw. There are a couple of stop signs nearby, so watch out for them. Otherwise, just drive the best...

    Subject Reviews (with PDF compilation)

Re: Subject Reviews (PDF updated 17/01/09) Some of the science units I did over the past two years: MATH2061: Linear Maths and Vector Calculus Ease: 7/10- Nothing too difficult in this course. The linear maths in particular is pretty straightforward (mainly just plugging numbers into...

    Passing a unit

I know this is a bit late, but you can't be scaled to fail in most courses. A raw mark of 50 will pass you.

    science (advanced)

The main difference between the advanced and normal course is the name of the degree (and the associated prestige), although advanced students can do advanced and TSP units, which look better when going for honours or postgrad. If you don't make advanced in the HSC, just enrol in normal and if...

    biol1001 quiz

I did maths, phys, chem and bio in my first year. While phys and chem were conceptually far more difficult, the bio course was so poorly run that it was harder to actually obtain the marks in that course.

    Score in driving test

It won't vary too much. Each driving test is 100-odd points, and you can lose up to about 8 IIRC. If you do something really stupid like go through a red light, then they can fail you just for that one action as well. Apparently I was only one point away from failing, but that's still a pass. :D

Faking Your 120 log book hours

I remember a friend at school who got busted for faking it. He started writing up in 2007, then wrote fakes dated 07 long into 08 - so stuff dated October was written before January the same year. Whoops! Just goes to show: If you're stupid, then too bad.
