Yeah, funny you should mention those texts cause I wrote mainly on The Handmaid's Tale, even though The Lord of the Rings is my favourite film of all time. :) I didn't use it at all. I prefer to enjoy masterpieces rather than study them anyway. ;)

I used 5 booklets. 3 full (I'm pretty sure one had more than the normal amount of pages, maybe 10 not 8) and one page on the other two. That's for both pieces though, essay AND creative writing. I'm guessing... 25-35 something pages? I put 30 - 35 cause pffft, that's what it felt like. :P

I've got one main story that can be manipulated to a degree. I have a few others and writing something on the spot isn't too difficult if you make it interesting, well written and stick to the conventions of your genre (I'm doing Spec Fic actually). Good Luck, Everyone. =D

I'm doing Spec Fic, so this won't be as relevant but contextual factors involved in the genre are pivotal to my genre and might help you. Don't over-complicate it though, just work on answering the question I suppose, your thesis will fabricate as you go along sometimes without your knowledge.

Don't stress, just do what you can. Mine are about 1500 words each, but it matters what you're writing, not how much. Just think about the question and make a valid, convincing answer that addresses it. Don't worry about prepared stuff overly, just ahve good material and a solid argument that...
