Applied Finance/Commerce at MQ suitable for Investment Banking?

Someone that gets 99.95 and goes on to do USYD Com/LLB is obviously smarter than some 60 ATAR arts dropout at UWS. If you need a source for that then you're an idiot. I have no idea why you are trying to refute this point; maybe self-esteem issues because you go to a not so good high school and...

Applied Finance/Commerce at MQ suitable for Investment Banking?

Too bad the people that look at your resume in Australia do look at your university and have biases toward Go8 with all their campus recruitment events and will continue to reach out to those schools year after year because on average the kids at Go8 are smarter than kids at non-Go8, especially...

Applied Finance/Commerce at MQ suitable for Investment Banking?

Too much misinformation on these forums re: banking/finance from people still in high school and how Macquarie is on a similar level to the Go8 in placing at IBs - sure you can use your outlier of an example in your GS Chicago buddy or whatever (doubt they're actually a "friend"), but just look...

Applied Finance/Commerce at MQ suitable for Investment Banking?

What the fuck are you talking about - Chase isn't even an IB - they're the commercial arm of JPM; Merrill (nice spelling btw) doesn't even exist anymore, their legacy IBD teams are part of BAML now. Also they are not collectively known as the "Big 4" - GS & MS are heads above the rest (JPM at...

What degree you're studying should be the least of your worries. As long as you have a solid resume with well-rounded experiences (not just in finance so you're actually an interesting person), know how to network and you'll be fine.

People don't do law to get a better understanding of contracts - they do it because it's seen as a prestigious degree and is 5 years long so you get to pad your resume for a longer period of time. Law firms are hired to handle the legal side of transactions (as well as the bank's in-house legal...

Well depending on who you ask, you may be told that data scientists build LBOs and do it better than bankers!

    Commerce/Economics degree and career help?

At UNSW, an economics degree means you have to major in Economics, Econometrics or Financial Economics. BCom is more flexible and you can major in anything. Career wise, no huge difference - B.Econ. with honours lets you work at the RBA, while leaving majority of the other common graduate roles...

    ACCT3563 is killing me

HD more than achievable. Quizzes are probably where you'll lose the most marks but you can make up for it in the easy finals since it only covers 3 topics.

When would a person at KPMG or Platinum ever build a LBO model?

Which other places would be building operating models that forecast every line item possible to support their merger models or LBO models? Please let me know. Also, financial modelling skills are just one (small) part of what PE firms look for - no one wants to hire some Asian who can calculate...

Well A2A promotions are more commonplace in Australia so there's less movement to the buy-side, not to mention the tiny DCM / LevFin market over here - just going through Dealogic will tell you that. That being said, I don't see any other job being comparable to IB in producing a "high...

Jobs you can get with commerce degree?

It doesn't really matter since at the end of the day, ib is purely monkey work at an intern/analyst level and anyone can do it.

As far as I know, the highest paying company for actuaries is Finity Consulting at ~$95k. Optiver have a similar base, but they also pay a bonus as a % of your desk's PnL I believe. They are also not an actuarial firm; they're prop traders.

But if you're insistent on doing a commerce degree, the strongest degrees for breaking into IB (outside of Co-op and other degrees that offer industry placements) would be Com/LLB at USYD
