Hey, I was just wondering whether anyone knows how to produce desktop alerts using visual studio 2005. I presume my apps will have to be running in the background; can this be done? Please help!!

I'm doing my major project at the moment, and have little experience in programming visual basic 6.0; just want to ask whether anyone can help with my problem: "how do I load and run external applications (e.g. microsoft word, etc) by using codes within VB 6.0?" any help will b much appreciated..
