I was just wondering, my subjects are adv maths + ext, adv english +ext, physics, economics, geography and i am really sick of geography and it is alot of work. and i am contemplating dropping down to 10 units. i know its a risk because i might screw one of my exams but it would give me way more time to do everything else. is ten units a good idea?

In that case, i suggest you drop it. You shouldn't have to suffer a whole year doing a subject that you just hate and is alot of work.

drop it if you are confident in all your other units. If you predict geo to be your lowest mk, then drop it.

10U is not as dangerous as most people think IF you are fairly confident in those 10u

yeah i don't think there is any reason for too much concern then, because in prelim i didn't work that hard and i was topping alot of the stuff and i only stuffed up 2 assessments all year so as long as i use the new time i have effectively and ensure that i'm going well in everything. if i didn't drop i would have to spend less time ensuring i know everything.
i'll think about it

i admit 10u is a big risk however i find that i have alot more time to study and therefore i do not flunk my assessments....it all depends on how well u manage your time though..

Dropping to 10 units was the best decision I made in high school. When you don't enjoy your 12th unit (mine was modern history), it is very likely that you try less hard and slack off a bit. Having 10 units, while it may be a little risky, is great as you can focus on your subjects more intensely and have more time to spare. I can understand why people will say that you need a "safety net", however, you should aim to do the best in all your subjects so having either 14 or 12 or 10 should not matter. My advice, if you hate geography, drop to 10...but do give it a holiday of contemplation.

It's nice to have a subject or two to fall back on if you have more than 10 units. (just incase a subject gets royally fucked up :D)

I'm doing 10 units and I must say that the extra time to concentrate on other subjects is divine - especially since I have extension english 1+2 and history extension.
If you aren't doing so well in geography I'd drop it mate, since it wont get included in your UAI if its your lower mark...

if u dont like it and are doing crap in it then drop it. examples theres no point in getting that HSC award with every subject over 90+ then geo with a mark of 30. it wouild just waste your time and force you to do work that you dont want to !

actually i am really glad that i kept doing 12 units because english extension was counted as part of my two units of english and thus pushed it up abit.

however looking at your subjects maybe 10 units is a good idea. Because you do maths and sciences which often need alot of study and homework time to get it all downpat, it would be better just to concentrate on 10 units instead of 12.

i only did general maths and all the humanities (history, legal, etc.) so i felt more comfortable and able to do 12 units.
