hi guys,
these are my subjects chosen for next year:
physics
chemistry
biology
3 unit maths
3 unit english

the problem is that my school says that because i have extension subjects i have to pick up another subject giving me a total 14 units? is this right, because ive never heard of this before...

i was hoping that you guys could help and tell me if this is correct, that i need to take up 14 units, and i don't want to because i already have some pretty hardcore subjects!!!!!

The minimum the board of studies requires is 12units for the prelim course so idk why you're being forced to do 14u. Is every single other person required to do 14 units? It could be them making you do 6 subjects, I know my school has that rule so no Year 11 has a free period.

Requirements for the HSC
Both the Preliminary and HSC Courses must include:

At least 6 units of Board Developed Courses, including at least 2 units of English
At least 3 courses of 2 units value or greater
At least 4 subjects (including English)
At most, 6 units of courses in Science can count towards HSC eligibility

Your units and subject count meets the board's requirement.

Maybe your school wants you to pick up another subject as you might get a lot of free periods, or they want to play it safe incase you decide to drop some later on, but you don't need to take 14 units. Those 12 units are already a handful anyway.
