why are you allowed to just cancel out the 16a and make it

am^2 + b =,<,> 0 ????

this is in relation to Cartesian Approach on parabolas.. and the discriminant..

I think it's because "a" can't equal 0, correct me if I'm wrong.

a is constant and so 16a hence you can eliminate it like:
12x+6=0 is the same as 2x+1=0 and finally you would get the same x from both equation.
