A narrative is just a story - it can be about anything. Some tips our teacher told us:

* Write about something u can relate to ie no sci fi or aliens or anything - keep it simple - quality not quantity
* Get straight into the plot - u have limited time so dont waste time writing about characters personalities - this should come through with how u write about them
* Try to write about something no one else would write about
* Never wake up from a dream

As for dramatic pauses - rhetorical questions work well or start a new paragraph - that symbolises a pause

Good luck

You can always include something like [brief pause] at the end of a sentence.

Addressing the audience is a good one, by making a statement to easen up the tone, such as i.e. make a humour comment, (If Appriopiate)
