Sorry if this is on search but I don't know the keyword to type (my descriptions are too long)

1) UAI is determined by 50% your school mark (ie. 25% trial / 25% remainder) assessments) and 50% HSC mark for 10 units of subjects and 2 units of english
- is it RAW mark or scaled mark determined in the HSC mark
- how do they determine ranks as half the UAI mark

2) If I go really well at school and not as well in the HSC (not because of illness/misadventure) does the marks align?, example; I get high 80s for SDD, ie. analysis task 80% (2nd/27) major project 88% (2nd/27) and for the HSC I only get like lets say 75, would that mean 75 + school marks, or would that 75 rise a little because I went so well in my other exams (lets even assume I also killed the trials for SDD)

- 25% trial / 25% the remaining assessments? is that the case for SDD? because it varies for different subjects (e.g. our chem trial is worth 35%)

- the hsc mark (which will appear on the letter the board sends you) is the aligned mark. the raw mark is aligned to become your hsc mark. the raw mark is also scaled to become the scaled mark. the scaled mark is used for uai calculation. the board will not reveal your raw and scaled marks

- the 75 you obtain in your hsc external exam will stay the same. the internal assessment mark will not have any effect on it
hope that helps

so you're trying to say that if someone gets averaging 60% in chemistry and only AVERAGE ranking (like 40/80 rank) (school assessment) for example then magically gets 90% for the HSC, that the aligned mark will rise up, but not all the way to 90% because the person didnt go AS well?

That depends on that person's rank in the external exam. If the ranks are sustained, then the internal assessment mark would be moderated to the corresponding exam mark.

If this person suddenly elevates from an average rank to a high rank within the school, the moderated assessment mark would still be average (meaning the school's average in the external exam), but the external exam mark would be in the higher ranks and remains unchanged. The final mark comes from the median/mean of the two marks.
To put it in one way, the high ranked external exam performance of this person has pulled this his or her's mediocre internal marks up. Put it in another way, the mediocre ranked internal assessment performance of this person has dragged his or her's external exam marks down.

perhaps in a very very elite school where teachers set impossible exams and mark like nazis, 60% as a mark and a 40/80 rank isn't so bad. the person's 60% internal assessment mark could be moderated to something around 90 if he gets 90 in the external exam.

however, in a school like ours, this isn't the case. if your raw assessment mark is 60% and your rank is 40/80, your moderated assessment mark will probably be around 60, if not lower.

assuming your moderated assessment mark ends up being 60,

(60+90) / 2 = 75......final hsc mark. yes, your good external mark has brought up the average, but not all the way to 90.

so in conclusion, quit the wishful thinking :D :p
