Foreign student shot dead

April 25, 2004
The Sun-Herald

A woman allegedly shot and killed her cousin in the south Sydney unit they shared before walking on to the street and into the arms of heavily armed police.

Yini Zeng, 22, faced Parramatta Bail Court yesterday charged with one count of murder and one count of possessing an unauthorised pistol.

Zeng and her cousin, aged in her 20s - both students at the University of NSW - shared a third-floor unit on the corner of Keats Avenue and Hegerty Street in Rockdale.

At 12.20am yesterday police received a triple-0 call to the block.

As the first officers arrived, they donned bulletproof vests, but before they could enter the building, police said, Zeng walked outside, talking on a mobile phone.

Police approached her and asked her several questions. She then accompanied them back into the block of units, from which she emerged 15 minutes later, handcuffed and with a towel over her head. She was taken to Hurstville police station and subsequently charged.

About 1.30am a distressed looking Asian man appeared at the scene and was allowed to enter the building.

Minutes later he left and was taken away by police, comforted by a female officer.

The block of units was closed off as a crime scene was established.

Detectives, crime scene officers and photogrammetry and ballistics experts all attended the scene.

A pistol was removed from the unit.

Zeng is in Australia on a student visa. Her family lives in China.

During her brief court appearance she was assisted by a police interpreter.

Zeng did not apply for bail, which was formally refused. She was remanded to appear in Central Local Court on April 27.

The victim's relatives overseas were notified of her death and were expected to make arrangements to travel to Australia.

Although I do understand the presence of chinese gangs (my car was wrecked in a gang related murder), just because she had a gun doesn't mean she had ties to chinese gangs, if we go down that path, she could have ties to any terrorist organisation, street gang or even the farmers association. :D

Why?

Simple. They have money that's what people kidnap these rich students etc...

Which is why money isn't everything in the world.
