hey im doin 2u maths with couchman book and ive completed the following chapters:
1 - basic arithmetic and calculator
2 - basic algebra and surds
3 - factorisation
4 - equations
5 - geometry
6 - special quadrilaterials
7 - functions
8 - trigonometry
9 - sine and cosine rules
10 - linear function
11 - introductory calculus
12 - futher calculus (about to finish the chapter)

now the reamining chapters are:
13 - probability
14 - sequences and series

since my prelim exams are on the 19th and we barely have time to finish the last two chapters. will the last two chapters be mentioned in the prelim exam or am i going to complete them in year 12 or skipping them?

You will either:
- Rush the remaining topics of the course before the end of the term
- Complete the chapters by next term
- Skip or partially complete the chapters and revisit them in Year 12

i would recommend using fitzpatrick 2u for yr 11 n 12 --the yellow book

jones n couchman doesnt resemble questions they ask in exams, plus its quite easy--so its not good for exam prep

the pink past paper book -- questions by topic is really good for all yr round y12 assessments..

hope that helps for next yr..

There is nothing new in yr 11 probability, it's the same as yr 10 probability. Sequences and series you can learn in less than half an hr.

AP = a series of numbers that increases or decreases by a constant
e.g. 1,3,5,7
nth term of an AP = a+(n-1)d, where a is the 1st term, and d is the common diff (the difference between the numbers)
Sum of n terms= (n/2)(a+l), where l is the last term, i.e. the nth term. You can also substitute a+(n-1)d for l if you're not given the last term

GP = a series that increases or decreases when multiplied by a number
nth term of a GP = arn-1, where a is the 1st term, r is the number multiplied to give the next term
Sum of n terms= [a(rn-1)]/(r-1) or [a(1-rn)]/(r-1)

ah thanks guys im just touchy that if i did study the remaining chapters and they dont show up in the exams ill piss myself that i wasted time and couldve used that time and effort on to other subjects! :S

E.g.
1,3,5,7,...............
Find the 10th term.
a=1 (that's the first term)
d=2 (you add 2 to get the next term)
n=10 (to find the 10th term)
nth term (called Tn) of an AP:
Tn=a+(n-1)d
=1+9*2
=19

Find the sum of the terms (called Sn)
Sn=(n/2)[2a+(n-1)d] (By substituting a+(n-1)d for l in Sn=(n/2)(a+l))
=5[2+9*2]
=100

If an AP is decreasing, e.g. 9,5,1,-3
then you're simply adding a negative number, in this case, you're adding -4 to get the next term. It's similar for a GP, you just find the first term, the number you multiply it by (less than 1 and greater than 0 if the series gets smaller and smaller) and you just plug it into the formula.

I use that text book and we have done the exact same chapters you have. Series and probability isnt going to be on the test. Locus is though...argh

if you havent done that stuff in class yet you might not do it in the exam but have a quick look over it anyway in case it comes up.
