like tha question i asked for 4u, can any tell me plz wut the scaling is like for 3u? i noe its no where near as good as 4u but my teacher sed that it is possible to get a scaled mark of 90 from a raw mark of 60. i noe this depends on the test but yeh.

yea it depends on the test and how everyone performs... but normally around 70% raw is 90 scaled, 80% for 95, and 90% for 99

i think 60% will most likely be in the mid 80s and 50%+ will get you at least 80 :)

when you think about it... 10% extra with 3u than the 4u raw will obtain you about the same scaled mark... so its no that big of a difference

I got approximately 80% in the 2002 HSC 3u and ended up with a HSC mark of 46/50 (Internal mark and exam mark were both 46/50)

yea last years marks were one of the lowest...

umm... me just thinking... why is math so easy get a high scaled mark?

i mean 99 scale is undoable for most subjects unless you top the state or something while in math in a good year 5-10% of 4u students get 99 scale or at least in the very end of the 90s... there is something wrong with the system or maybe its just the 'asians' inflating the marks...

hee hee hee dun diss us asians :p
umm i think they scale it so heavily because those doing such a complicated and difficult subject MUST be smart and if they are smart they MUST be 90 percentile students so its only obligatory that they give them the 90 percentile marks they would no doubt be acheiving in every other aspect of their lives :p:p:p:p:p (but its true...thats wut they think!!)(no reeeely it is the reason)
bye bye
luv meee

i estimated around a 80% raw mark for my HSC exam at the best-i.e. if i dint make any silly mistakes. So in actual fact, i would have prolly got around 77% raw. My final scaled exam mark was 94 and i was like...OMG. So i think there's some pretty massive scaling.

wow!! thats excellent scaling.
thing is with internal assessments...if u get like a 70 average thats used to tabulate ur mark and despite getting like a wonderful 90+ in the exam u get like an over all thing of like 80 sumthing...does that overall thing get scaled??? (im still confused about this uai business)

you mean internal assessment scaling, and the external exam? if you got 70 in your internal assessment, and were ranked first in the class. if you then got 90 in your external exam, your internal will be brought up to 90, giving you a total final mark of 90.

when teachers send in marks and ranks, it is only the ranks which really matter, marks don't matter. the spacing between each mark and each rank does.

Are we talking about scaling or aligning? They're two different things, you know.
