Roughly how many words in a 5min speech, if it is read at a proper pace?

It depends on your style, your content, what effects you want to play etc.
As a *very* rough guide: 700-900
But because I presume that this is for Journeys and hence you're doing analysis of texts, I would stick to the lower end.

I know roughly for read and spoken (as for a speech) is about 1000 words for 3 mins (i thinks

Hmm, Roughly on a guide if your speech is where you have a related text and your core text (i.e. skrzynecki's poem).
About 1000-1200 words for 3mins - 3mins and 30 secs

if you are doing a 3 min speech properly...like paced and all it is actually 500 words and thats all.. thats what my tutor told me... otherwise u will be rushing .. which is BAD!

(sighs) i think it is roughly 2 A4 pages 12 times new roman (the max) for approx 4 mins

TV and Radio Journalists usually use a rule of three words per second.... so about 900 words is a good estimate.

I see all these guys say 700-900 words for 5mins - mine was something like 580 words for this term...it's weird. Other guys wrote about 150 words more than me and did a speech of about 4:15. And the odd thing is that I couldn't really say it any faster (believe me, I tried)
So, there really is no estimate. Just type up 500 words, practice it, time it and then calculate approx. how many words are required for 5mins - that should give you a fairly accurate estimate.
