What do u reckon the band 6 cut off will be, I'm guessing a raw mark of around 83% would give u a band 6. It wasn't the hardest test out there

83? yeah possibly...but i think it may be as low as 80... some of the questions were retarded (jordan's especially). but yeah i wouldn't be surprised if it was 85 either...its a bit too early to say :)

75 went to 85 last yr
and it was a pretty easy exam last yr
this year i reckon maybe even high 70s might align to 90s

definatelty not 80s, have u seen previous band cut-offs?
i reckon this years exam was much harder than last years. last year a 75 got aligned to 85. therefore for this years exam i reckon a 75 would probably get aligned to 90

I feel top 8%, heck thats almost 1 in 10, it seems even easier when you put it like that.

...aligning doesnt do much 4 a mark of Zero though does it?... no... i'll go and cry now...

...is aligning a constant or a %?... meaning if 75 goes to 85... does 55 go to 65?... thats about what im looking @...

For a mark of 0, assuming a straight added %, the best you could hope is a 15%, which is still band-1. Hahaha. I assume it is ROUGHLY a straight addition of marks. Though i am in no place to comment on this as i don't realy know.

aligning is where they put hte top 10% between 90 and 100, the next 10% between 80 and 100 etc etc

Aligning does not guarantee 10% will get over 90, theoretically everyone can get over 90. As stated last year about 8% got over 90. Aligning alters the raw marks based on the difficulty of the exam compared to the previous ones so the marks for the subject is comparable each year. And also just because you get an aligned mark of 90 does not guarantee you HSC Physics mark will be 90, the aligned mark only counts for half of the HSC mark and the other half is your moderated assesment mark that is determined by your ranking and how well all your classmates did

don't they make the mean 69 ish and the standard deviation 18

that means if everyone got 100 raw, they would all end up with 69 as their algined mark

I think you're thinking of scaling which is done by UAC and does not affect aligned marks

Yeah as was said, this is incorrect. The aligning profile is determined by a committe, before the exam is even sat by the students. Theoretically 100% of students could get a Band 6

Coheren - Bone 5777 is't right. the lower your raw mark is, the higher it scales ( to a point). I know because my friend got 96% in the trials and it didn't scale up at all according to the scaling algorithm. But my other friend got bellow 20 % and it scaled up to the mid 50's. I got 72% raw and that scaled up to 87%.

But when they calculate the UAI (completely seperate) the higher the aligned marks are the less they scale down.

Depending on how every one else does If you got 50's raw, you'll probably get like mid 70's
If you got like below 20 % it will scale up to 50's at least

How would you know this without them actually releasing scaled marks?

Based on the last 3 years, 80+ will get a 90 aligned. However as i said in another thread, don't kid yourself into thinking you got a good mark. wait till 19th dec......
