Ok this is a follow up to a topic i made i while back and i have fiddled with SAM but wanted to know what you guys think:

English Adv. - 1st Ass 93% 2/30 (10%)
General Maths - 1st Ass 88% 1/60 (10%), Second Ass 87% 4/60 (15%)
Engineering Studies - 1st Ass 95% 1/10 (20%)
Design and Technology - 1st Ass 91% 2/30 (10%), 2nd Ass 100% (1/30) (20%)
Geography - 1st Ass 95% 1/20 (15%)

you can work it out, mark, rank, weighting.

Half yearlies are next week.

I'm not familiar with the subject you do (except for Adv English), but I'd say you're looking at a UAI of 90+. It's a conservative figure, but it's really too early in the year to estimate an accurate UAI. If you maintain your marks/rankings for the remainder of the year, then you'd probably achieve (if not, come close to achieving) your target UAI of 97.

Judging by your school's results in those courses, last year, I'd say 94 to 95 maximum.

Of course, you may be of a higher quality than last year.

If you do want a 97.00, I'd say that you'd need to

(a) Come first in English (Advanced) and get into the top band.
(b) Actually, you'll need to get into the top band for all your courses. Those courses don't scale all that well. Even if you do manage to get into the top band for all your courses, a 97.00 is not guaranteed.

But, if you do as well as your school last year, a 93 to 95 would be about the UAI for which you could reasonably aim.

If you don't need the UAI, just relax and enjoy the year while still remaining on top.

Love,

pi.

fakingtheday; you only want 97 to get the scholarship for your course right?
Also, the course you want is only about 80.00 isn't it? So it's no big deal if you don't get 97.00, just put up with HECS! :p

As Captain_pi said, your subjects don't scale very well. However, that's not to say you can't get a UAI of 99+ if you work hard...I still stick with my estimate of 90-95.

VERY HARD.

If you got into the 99th percentile for all your courses last year, your scaled marks would be:

English (Advanced): 93.2
General Mathematics: 81.2
Engineering Studies: 85.4
Design and Technology: 84.2
Geography: 91.6

Giving an aggregate of 435.6 which would get you a UAI of around 98.90. And those would be awesome results for your courses.

Sorry, if I've demotivated you. You should aim to get into the top bands for all your courses and see where that gets you. :)

Love,

pi.

See, if i look at that i think i'm capable of all those scores. Geography being the hardest, engineering most likely being the easiest. Thanks for the feedback, i'm happy with over 90, and if i surrender and go to shittsville (Newcastle) i can get 4 more points. Thanks guys.

I'm sorry, I am probably wrong. But those marks don't look right to me, I am sure you could not get 98.90 with them. Are the "8's" typos and should actually read 91.2, 95.4, 94.2?

No.

Those are scaled marks, not aligned marks. You 'only' need a scaled aggregate of 430-440 to get 98.90 or 98.95.

They are the scaled marks one would have received if he achieved in the 99th percentile last year.

Ah well...always try look on the bright side of things - if mentally you limit yourself to 98 you most probably won't surpass that. That said, aiming for something you don't feel you can achieve is probably useless.

Mmm, I don't know what scaled marks are... lol. Anyone want to inform me?
Raw marks are scaled and aligned.
Aligned marks are reported on your Record of Achievement.
Scaled marks are totalled to give a scaled aggregate and are then used in the calculation of your UAI...these aren't revealed to students (except in the UAC reports). From memory, you need an aggregate of 458 to get 99.5.
