A few days ago the conservative LNP won power in Queensland, defeating the three-term Labor government. David Crisafulli is now Queensland’s new premier.

A far-right party called KAP wants to introduce an abortion laws repeal bill which will recriminalise abortion.

Given that 93% of the LNP voted against legalising abortion in 2018, it’s almost certain that the LNP will vote in favour of the bill, and abortion could be banned in Queensland by the end of the year. Crisafulli himself is opposed to abortion.

It’s hard to think that such a big step backwards on abortion rights could actually happen. I feel for the people who could be affected by this having fewer options for their health is a serious issue.
