I was just wondering what the rules are about writing notes for being away once you are 18.

When you are 18 you don't have a legal guardian anymore, so isn't it logical that you would be allowed to write your own notes etc, and the teachers couldn't send letters home 2 your parents if you don't hand in h/w?

please post about your school. thanx

I heard it was "if you reeally wanted to" from my principal - but they'd rather have stuff from the parents, I reckon because they reckon your parents would be more honest about your awols.

if u r 18 u write your own notes, i found that out the other day when my parents were in europe, and i was sick 1 day , so i wrote my own away note, and the teacher is like 'oh so ur 18 now r u?' and im like yeh, and shes like ok then.

so thats just my school, i doubt other schools would be differnt, once u r 18 u r your own legal guardian, and your parents arent anymore, no matter what institution u r at.

i guess it depends on what teacher you have. this kid in my class did that once, he had turned 18 and all but the teacher didn't accept it...oh well. its stupid, what if you live alone..

Yeah! What if your parents died in a freak accident whilst scubadiving for pearls in Nigeria

My school used to send out absentee notices to the parents to ask for the reason for an absence (when a letter hadn't been received for a week or so). By the end of year 11 I was signing off my own notes, usually because I had been recorded absent due to having first period off. But I think they accepted the fact that in year 12 a lot of students are 18 and therefore legally adults.

I really think after year 10 you should have a right to sign off absentee notes because it's your choice to be there. ;)
