Victorian police corruption happened very recently, you may wish to use that as an example of power/authority abuse. You may also like to link this issue with the Wood Royal Commission report on police corruption created a number of years ago, and how ineffectively the legal system has responded to such concerning issues to this day. :)

Wood was in 1996.

Corruption is always a good thing to look at.

Another thing you can look at is when the Parliament passes a statute to override judgements made in the common law, usually for their own political purposes.

A recent example of this is when the NSW State Government passed legislation to enable a garbage tip to be built in an area that the Supreme Court? said was illegal. I can't remember the specific case though.

Another one is the recent case where the Land and Environment Court banned fliming in the Blue Mountains, however, the State government allowed it. http://www.bananasinpyjamas.com/nsw/news/200404/s1098159.htm
