that method of ranking seems very suspicious and inconsistent. It is highly biased by the researchers who perform it, particularly parts 1, 4 (they sourced all the info from the internet eg ishighlycited.com? What great sources ).

There is another way of ranking that you can find of the world's unis, and each uni rates the others' business schools etc, but again it's very controversial.

UTS may not be in it because I don't think they are as big as the other unis in terms of the subjects where citations are very important - like the sciences (psych, med etc).

It seems as though it is a ranking system that notes research institutions rather than those primarily concerned with teaching (which is obvious from the title). Maybe that is why UTS is not regarded as being within the top 500?

from what i've heard from various people, that list seems pretty reasonable in terms of Australian unis. dunno about UTS though, i thought it had a pretty good rep. ? dunno.

Ranking are always rubbish. They are biased. These ranking were mostly based on research, so for an undergraduate degree - is mostly irrelevant.

Best advise on quality of course will be to use common sense. Ask people about course, check uni websites etc etc

this might be a stupid question,
but most of the big uni's in australia are public, aren't they?
the only private tertiary institutions are really small business/art/design schooles etc, right?

we don't have bigarse ivy league schools like harvard and yale and stuff aye

UTS is only a small uni compared to all the others. Its only got 24,000 students compared to like.. 50,000 in unsw and usyd. Im assuming most american uni's have much more too.

Take a look at the UTS campus too... it's scattered across 8 buildings around broadway. Nothing like the scale of american universities. But i think academic wise... its all pretty much the same.

It all depends on how hard you work. not the uni.

UTS also doesn't have no where as near as much research as the unis that got in the list; which the list was compiled on research rankings.

No offense to James Cook Uni, but it is in the list for Top 500, I can see many unis 'better' than that such as UTS. I think the fact that JCU is a lot older than UTS, and may have more research schools etc....

Prehaps if you were doing a phd i'd look at the results; any other prupose, especially at undergraduate level i would take with a grain of salt...
