How mathsy is this subject?

How relevant is it to give you a greater understanding for future studies in Finance?

I don't need to do this subject, as I qualify for my degree at the end of this semester already. BUT, later down the track, I would like to get into the Finance industry perhaps...I do have an interest in it nonetheless, so I am thinking why not learn about the stuff while at uni...

Also, they don't use the Hull text which ACCG329/ACCG352 use. So, I am assuming it won't be as challenging as those two? Would it just airbrush Finance? I mean, I want to have a go at the maths of finance, I guess.

All comments welcome. :)

Once exams are over, do think you could possibly send me stuff like past/practice papers (if any released) or class tests. Just so I can have a closer look at what will be actually done.

Aren't ACCG329/ACCG352 mathsy?

Hmm...Can we use ACCG253 as a basis for comparison. Your definition of mathsy is probably very very different to mine. :D

Hey Redrum, the level of math in 353 is very similar to that of 253. In fact, whe whole course is very similar - 353 is pretty much an extension of 253.

I don't have any past papers though, sorry.

Thanks ND, does it have a big theory component?

I'd say there's more calculation than just explaining concepts - probably in about the same proportion as 253 from what i can recall (but it's been a while since doing either of them!).

If you want to do it, at least try it out (you can always withdraw), but there are probably better finance subjects out there (can't speak from experience though). I didn't feel that i got anything at all from it.

OK. I've had a look at the unit outline and it doesn't seem to bad. What other finance subjects are you talking about?

As i said, i'm not talking from experience, but i've heard that subjects such as FIN310 and ECON360 are pretty good.

But anyway: if you liked 253, you'll like 353. If you didn't like 253, you won't like 353.

Overall, how is the subject compared to accg253 (which I kinda enjoyed doing lol)??

if some1 could send me the unit outline and perhaps a few lecture notes on the subject, it would be muchly appreciated!!

Hi all,

I’m doing 253 next semester. Everyone keeps saying 253 is really hard, but how bad can it be? Is it more practical than theory? I’m really good with the practical stuff.
