Hey Guys,
My name is Kane and is currently heading into year 11 and exploring my future path. I am extremely interested in a future in the Defence Force particularly a Navy Engineer. I would like to enter defence through ADFA, Grabbing a Degree whilst getting employment training really appeals to me. But there are many questions that just keep popping the further down I dig.
First of all how hard is it to get into ADFA especially as a Navy Engineer. I heard ADFA has a take in of around 300 personnel per year and apparently only 30 of those are navy. Which then my chances gets even more lowered joining Engineering. For next year the subject I would be doing is 2 Unit Maths, Physics, Adv English, Music and Economics. And for my year 10 report, I am averaging A's and B's. I play regular team sport (Soccer) But stopping in year 11 due to studies. I am trying to volunteer more in the community and in school. And will try to obtain a Leadership position within the school. How will this fair in my application and should I do more? So what are my realistic chances of joining ADFA As a Navy Engineer? And Officer selection board how hard is it and what kind of questions I can expect?
Which brings me on to my next question. Should I Study mechanical or Electrical Engineering (Or even Aeronautical)? Both degrees will basically dictate the job I would have in Defence either being a Mechanical Engineering Officer or Electrical Engineering Officer and My life after defence which is a big question mark right now. So in terms of occupations which would be better within defence becoming an MEO or an EEO? And life after defence what careers could I take after defence with these degrees?
I would like to end this post by asking what are postings like in the Navy. I know it's in modules of 2-3 years posted on to a boat then 2-3 years posted to a shore base. I also know that you put in your preferences of where you would like to be located but how accommodating are those? I am from Sydney and would like to be located here. So what are my chances of being posted in Sydney Especially with fleet base east being here? What would be my role at shores? I would also like the get into recruitment with defence recruiting would that be considered a shore posting and how competitive are those? And what is being posted to a ship like? How many months in those years are you actually at sea? How many deployments do you go on and how long are they? If you're not at sea but posted to a ship what do you do?
These are just some of the Many questions that I have. But if anyone has personal experience that would like to share with me that would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
