Hey,

I have Acrobat Reader 7.0 on my computer now but this problem has been occuring since I upgraded from 5.0.

Basically, every time I go to open a .pdf file from a Window it tells me that Acrobat Reader isn't installed and would I like to install it (this is ridiculous, as I have the latest version)

When I go to install it, it will promptly install 5.0.

The way around this is to right click on the item and click read, then it comes up properly.

Now, I've tried to do the thing whereby I set all .pdf files to be opened with Acrobat 7.0. Initially, this worked, but then it decided it didn't want to.

Then I tried to uninstall all versions of Acrobat and re-install them. No difference.

In addition, when I had 6.0 I could open the files but the other logins on XP couldn't. We could still open pdf's in web browsers though. Now, none of us can open them, and we can't open them in web browsers.

I suspect this is a registry problem of some sort whereby it isn't updating itself to let the computer know that there is a later version. The short question is though, how do I fix this?

Thanks. :)

when you uninstalled, did you restart your computer?

and when you are reinstalling, are u installing Adobe Acrobat? or Adobe Acrobat Reader?

What other Adobe applications do u have?

If it is only reader, you could risk wiping all registries that link to Adobe, and then try installing it again.

Reader is the only Adobe Application I have.

Its becoming very annoying because now I can't view uni e-reserve articles and I can't link save them either... grr..

So how do I wipe the registry files?

hmm. the only thing is, i'm not sure removing all adobe registries will do the trick.

Start > run > regedit

there are free ADOBE forums, where u can query for help.

and i really doubt anything will be in the event logs...

OK never mind. I found the 'Repair' Option in "Add/Remove Programs' under 'Change'. It fixed my registry files and everything and now everything is opening everywhere and in browsers and its not asking me to install Adobe 5.0

Thanks for the help anyways. :)
