I am pretty sure we are going to get the NetComm ADSL NB1300 PLUS 4 Modem and I was wondering whether this is a decent modem. Also, is there an equivalent internal model, because dad wants an internal modem (they do the same thing don't they)? My main question however, is where can I get it for the cheapest price:)?

external is better, u can just restart the modem if it screws up, instead of restarting the whole comp. Plus they get hot, so outside is much better.

Yeah, the Netcomms are okay .. Ive never tried anything else and I haven't had impossible problems :)

Also if you get an external, make sure it's ethernet connected..

so people can surf the net without the main computer being turned on.

ie. all your computers would be plugged into the modem and only the modem needs to be left on.

with USB, the computer with modem plugged in needs to be turned on for the other computers to surf the web. I guess it isn't so bad if you only got one computer. But, you might get another one in future.

Good question. I've never really thought about that cause mine was one of those get-with-plan things.. :p

I guess computer stores would have them.. just find a non-dodgy one :)

The power comes through the power cord, same as a modem connected through USB. The only difference is that the modem -> computer connection is through an ethernet cable, not a USB cable =)

hello. i am using htis modem atm. i received it wen i joined EXETEL 1.5MB ADSL. its prob that best modem i've used.. no problems, does nto over heat. i leave it on for 4 days.. and its still normal, graet for LAN, and can be connected to ur comp via USB1.2,2.0 or network connections. looks fantastic.. and no drivers needed. even comes with a video tutorial if u dont know how to set it up.

i;ve had no problems with it,.. GOODLUCK WITH PURCHASE

and GOUGH WHITLAM: i agree with mednex--> this modem connects thorugh USB and through ethernet.. but u need to install the drivers if u wanna use the USB

So Exetel's price is competitive? There are other brands but I think Dad wants a NetComm modem:).
