amazing film.

though it takes a while to build momentum. it's filled with so many subtleties that comply with the descent into madness is portrays; the way the raft deteriorates; kinski's lurch becoming more and more angular towards the end... the final shot is one of the most astonishing in any film.

seen any other herzog?

the ending is one of the most beautiful things ever

"who else is with me..?"

the only other herzog i've seen is Nosferatu which i thought was amazing visually

even though it's pretty hard to find, check out even dwarfs started small. it's his debut feature, and one of the craziest films ever made. it centres around a mental asylum / institution for dwarfs where the dwarfs have killed their powers and run amok on their own. it's basically plotless, but a brilliant study of total anarchy put into practice.

i've also seen fitzcarraldo, the mystery of kaspar hauser, stroszek (the film ian curtis watched before he offed himself), woyzeck and a few short docos he's done but can't remember the names of. all are great 'cept woyzeck which i wasn't really in the mood for when i saw so may need to watch it again.

I've seen Fitzcarraldo, because it was in that 1001 movies you must see before you die book. Haven't gotten around to Aguirre just yet though.. damn I'm making slow progress. Still only 312/1001.
