Ok basically my understanding so far of the aligning of internal marks process is that internal assessment marks are aligned to the highest external (HSC exam mark) mark, so 1st rank get's the highest external mark as their assessment mark and then all other assessment marks are aligned to it, preserving the gaps between ranks/internal marks.

Going off this, I am ranked 10th in ext 1 maths. Let's say 1st place gets an external mark of 48/50. Since I am ATLEAST 10 internal marks behind first place, my assessment mark can only align up to a max of 38/50. Therefore even if I get 50/50 for the external exam, I still can't get an E4 and would end up with 44/50.

Is everything I said right?

I didn't read your whole post but just because you're 10th doesn't necessarily mean you're at least 10 marks behind first. E.g. in a test, say you came 10th and got 96%. 9 people would have all gotton 97% and they would be equal first, but you getting the enxt highest mark came 10th. Make sense?

Yeah I understand, that makes sense. But just assume my scenario is true, and I am actually 10 marks behind. Does that mean my internal mark is capped at 10 marks below what 1st gets? (assuming there is a 1 mark difference between ranks.)

Also, going off this means that people with same HSC mark will not have their assessment mark's aligned the same unless they're of equal rank.

Any input appreciated

No, that isn't the case - you're assuming that the internal range of marks will be the same as the external range of marks - but in fact that range could be squished or stretched with a corresponding effect on your mark.
