Besides having a transfer are there any other ways to get into a course? For example, engineering at most unis they offer the FEAS interviews which gets you in if your below the cutoff. Is it possible to simply meet up with a dean at one of the universities, arrange an interview (if theyre willing) and hope that they like you enough to get you into the course (ala Seth trying to get into Brown)?

i remember hearing of a few students who managed to make it into their courses without having to transfer. im wondering how common this is and whether a few days of planning and meeting up with the right people could end up saving me an extra year's worth of study.

atm im not 100% sure ill make it into my first preference course but almost positive i should atleast be within a few UAI points of last years cutoff.

Some universities (such as MQ and I've heard stories about at USYD) have flexible entry for courses based on how well you may have done in a HSC course relevant to the degree you wish to do. My friends brother for example didn't make the UAI cut off for USYD B Arts however he showed them his 4U English result and he got in.

For Macquaire in the UAC guide they state for an alternative pathway, "for a select number of students, strong performance in year 12 subjects relevant to the course." (Page 173)

Alternatively, you could try getting into the course as a graduate:p

Would meeting up with the dean get you into courses like med or physio??
I think those courses would probably be to competitive to get in via alternative methods:p

That's what I'm trying to find out, I really want to get into university next year but haven't had the opportunity to get the marks that i need. I've been told that sometimes its possible if you apply directly to the university, but I don't think it would be something that happened really often.

You could always try sitting the STAT test if you wanted to, except today is the last day to register for it.

Then there's always bribary, I'm sure they'd let you in for a million dollars :p
