I was wondering if evangelion:1 rebuild would be good as a related text. Could comparing asuka and Abigail together work(they both forced belonging, inferiority complex, fun stuff like that) or is using anime just setting yourself up to fail?

If you can find techniques and compare and contrast (link) it back to your prescribed text, then it should be fine. Also, look at the rubric. Have at least 2 related texts and link each one of them to the different components of the rubric. If you can do that, you should be fine. Well, that's my opinion.
