Well actually a2+b2+c2+d2 = (a+b+c+d)2- 2(ab+ac+ad+bc+bd+cd)


but yeah you got it. but if in an exam you're not sure, always check it - it's only about a minute's worth of algebra to expand some brackets and could save a few marks
