Im thinking of doing Commerce/Law next year at uni, are there any good books to start reading that cover some of the material that is in the course or are good material to read before doing this course?

Cheers,
Pat

Eager beaver. :)

The text used in Foundations (this year anyway, it might change!) is Butterworth's 'Laying Down the Law' 5th ed. (in green) by Cook et. al. If you can't find it, the 4th edition isn't much different I suppose. I can lend you my copy if you can't find it in the library/otherwise. :)

For Commerce, your 1st semester subjects are going to be Introductory Accounting, Introductory Microeconomics and Econometrics or Information Systems depending on which you choose (I recommend doing 'metrics first because it's more interesting ^^). It's not very useful to do background reading on this, but if you want more detail about what the courses involve feel free to PM me. :)
