All I know is that Prussia defeated France in the Franco-Prussian War in 1871 and subsequently declared a new unified state (Germany) in Paris. This really peeved the French off because in addition to the compensation paid to the Germans, they also had to give Germany the provinces of Lorraine and Alsace.

I also have my prelim yearlies in a month. In my opinion, the best way to study for modern is to anticipate the type of questions that are going to be asked and write notes that answer each question accordingly.

yes i did this subject too:
Otto von Bismarck was the Prime Minister of Prussia, he wanted a political union of the Germanic states dominated by Prussia. The main opposition to this was the religious differences between the northern and southern states and also Austria, who was in a conflict with Prussia over two Danish duchies, Schleswig and Holstein. They agreed to one each but Prussia wanted both. Bismarck sought to isolate Austria; gained an ally in Russia by supporting the suppression of a Polish rebellion, and also allied with and neutrality agreement wiht Napoleon (France). Bismarck sent Prussian soldiers into Holstein and deafeted the austrians at the battle of Sadowa. By the Treaty of Prague, Prussia was joined some northern states in the North Germanic Confederation (first stage of unification). He then frightened the southern states into a military alliance by revealing Napoleon's designs on the rhineland. Napoleon declared war on Prussia and was defeated in the Franco-prussian war. The German Empire was proclaimed in the Hall of Mirrors at Versailled in 1871. William I (King of Prussia) became the first emperor and Bismarck became the first Chancellor.
