Thinking of picking up science extension- is it worth it?

Also, can you do a report on anything even if you dont do the science involved with it?

I know a friend who did it and he says it is as long as you have a rough idea on the branch of science you wanna do and as long as you do the work and not leave it last minute its worth it cuz it scales amazingly.
