area of curves (1 Viewer)

hi,
just a basic question..
when they say to find the area of a curve or find the area of a curve btwn x=1 and x=9 or sth...it's the area under the curve for a curve above the x axis ?
and when the curve goes to the 2nd quad and ur integrating the y, u take the absolute value of it rite?

eg area from y=1 and y=2 but on the 2nd quad...its the absolute value rite?

this may be a little late but
if your doing 2nd quadrant and its for y values, that means its a negative (for y values) so u hafta do abs values


if its in first quadrant for y values, its already positive so no abs values
